Pharmaceutical Sector

As per the Indian ratings, the Indian pharmaceutical industry and India’s biotechnology industry is estimated to grow at about 20 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Biopharma is the largest sector contributing about 60 percent of the total revenue.

Furthermore, the Union Cabinet has given its nod to alter the existing FDI policy in the pharmaceutical sector thus giving a financial boost to the sector. It also plans to reduce approval time for new facilities to attract investments.

The Indian pharma market size is expected to grow to more than US$ 80 billion by 2020. Increased consumer spending, rise in lifestyle diseases, rapid urbanisation, awareness and upsurge in healthcare insurance are encouraging signs along with the government taking steps to reduce healthcare expenses. Additionally, the government is focusing on speedy introduction of generic drugs to benefit the pharma companies.
